Rewind (2023)

For decades, love teams have been prominent in Philippine media. The fascination with on-screen love stories and the curiosity about the real-life relationships of these pairs have been enduring. It’s something we can’t help but be drawn to, right? Our love for love extends to the realm of K-dramas as well! Now, as we usher in a new era of Pinoy love teams—amidst the notable celebrity breakups of 2023 and the emergence of the purely fictional BarDa pairing—”Rewind” takes us on a journey back in time.

Change is often intimidating, especially as we navigate through a transformation in Philippine entertainment. However, for those moments when we’re not quite prepared to embrace the wave of change, this Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera movie provides a comforting anchor. Thus, there is no better time to release the DongYan reunion film than now!

Personally, I felt like “Rewind” (2023) transported me back to the days when DongYan dominated the TV screens. Those were the days when everyone would gather in front of the television to rewatch the story of Marimar and Sergio Santibañez portrayed by the now-married couple! Do you also remember the golden age of fantaseryes on GMA, which included the TV adaptation of Mars Ravelo’s “Dyesebel”? And who could forget the title of  Carlo J. Caparas’ graphic novel “Ang Babaeng Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang”? I must say, “Rewind” (2023) definitely served nostalgia! Plus, I can now share the kilig vibes care of Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes with my now grown-up siblings!

Marian Rivera as Mary Nuñez, the film’s muse, is perfect for her role as it highlights her timeless beauty and talent! LOL at the recent TikTok trend of Marian Rivera’s dance performances back in the day. Apparently, Gen Zers only discovered now, as she made a resurgence on the modern platform, how she used to reign the dance floor. Now with “Rewind” (2023), they will probably understand why she was crowned as the Primetime Queen too!

For his part as John Nuñez, Dingdong Dantes also proved his superior drama skills. While his wife took a hiatus from acting, Dingdong Dantes continued to star in remarkable films like “Sid & Aya: Not a Love Story” with Anne Curtis and “A Hard Day” with John Arcilla. And have you seen him in “One More Try” with Angel Locsin, Angelica Panganiban, and Zanjoe Marudo; and “Seven Sundays” with Ronaldo Valdez, Aga Muhlach, Enrique Gil, and Cristine Reyes? Needless to say, this is not the first time he made us cry in theaters!

Helmed by Mae Cruz-Alviar, the director of some of the most popular romantic Filipino movies starring our favorite Pinoy love teams (KathNiel, AshLloyd, LizQuen, and more) as well as DingDong Dantes’ 2013 movie “She’s The One” with Bea Alonzo, the 2023 Marian Rivera-Dingdong Dantes movie truly made me fall back in love with Filipino love stories. Produced and distributed by Star Cinema in association with Dingdong Dantes’ Agosto Dos Media and APT Entertainment, “Rewind” (2023) top-billed by GMA Network’s exclusive talents is one of the biggest collaborations in Philippine entertainment!

Meanwhile, this heartwarming story is written by Enrico Santos, who is also behind “In The Name of Love” (starring Angel Locsin, Aga Muhlach, and Jake Cuenca), “The Trial” (starring John Lloyd Cruz, Jessy Mendiola, Richard Gomez, Gretchen Barretto, and Enrique Gil), and “My Cactus Heart” (starring Maja Salvador, Matteo Guidicelli, and Xian Lim).

In a time when time travel, multiverses, and quantum physics have been explored deeply and countless times already, “Rewind” (2023) brings us back to the basic concept of rewinding time, stripping down its complexities, and peeling it to the core–revealing a heart that is capable of love. A human nature that’s inevitable and substantial, a main source of motivation and inspiration, and what truly makes life worthwhile.

And in a world where technology continuously rises while our attention span simultaneously decreases, it reminds us to refocus and make time for what matters most. The movie’s simplicity and timeliness are what make “Rewind” (2023) a must-watch!
